    (April 12, 1893-September 5, 1920)
Acted in ‘Those Awful Hats (1909),' ‘An Unseen Enemy (1912),' ‘The Musketeers of Pig Alley (1912),' ‘The Battle at Elderbush Gulch (1913),' ‘Judith of Bethulia (1914),' ‘The Birth of a Nation (1915),' ‘Intolerance (1916)' and ‘True Heart Susie (1919)'
He often played naïve youths several years younger than himself.
He grew resentful of fellow Biograph star Richard Barthelmess's rising fame.
He was jilted by Dorothy Gish.
He was killed when he carelessly picked up a coat with a loaded gun in its pocket.
Some believe he killed himself because his career was in decline.
He began working at thirteen to help out his large, impoverished family.
While employed as a messenger boy at Biograph Studios, he was discovered by D.W Griffith.
He became one of Griffith's most popular leading men, particularly with women.
Colleagues described him as charming and soft spoken.
Critic Richard Schickel believes he was gay and shot himself because of stress from having to hide this.
