Why she might be annoying
Before discovering 'A Course in Miracles,' she abused alcohol and drugs, had a series of unhappy love affairs (one of which produced a daughter out of wedlock) and had a nervous breakdown.
Her ideas were described in 'People' as 'a trendy amalgam of Christianity, Buddhism, pop psychology and twelve-step recovery wisdom.'
She described herself as 'a bitch for God.'
Comments from her ex-employees include 'Marianne is a tyrant. She's cruel—unnecessarily—and very controlling' and 'When she's mad, it's like watching a 3-year-old throw a tantrum.'
She officiated at the wedding of Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky.
Why she might not be annoying
She founded Project Angel Food, a meals-on-wheels program for homebound AIDS sufferers in the Los Angeles area.
Four of her books were #1 on the New York Times best-sellers list.
Oprah Winfrey said of 'A Return to Love,' 'I have never been as moved by a book as I have by Marianne Williamson's book.'
She said about criticism of her behavior, 'If I was a man, I'd be considered a good leader.'
