Johnny Hates Jazz

    Born in England, United Kingdom
    1987 line-up:
    Clark Datchler (vocals, piano)
    Calvin Hayes (keyboards)
    Mike Nocito (bass)
Recorded 'Shattered Dreams,' 'I Don't Want To Be A Hero,' 'Turn Back The Clock' and 'Heart Of Gold'
They are a U.S. one hit wonder.
They got their name from a friend named Johnny who (you guessed it) hated jazz.
Irony times 2 - Datchler's father was part of a popular jazz trio, and the band was signed to a record deal after a jazz club gig.
Datchler quit in 1988 and was replaced by former Cure bassist Phil Thornalley, but had no hits and disbanded four years later.
They had four singles that reached the U.K. Top 20.
'Shattered Dreams' reached #5 in the U.K. and #2 in the U.S.
Their debut album 'Turn Back The Clock' went multi-platinum and reached #1 on the U.K. album chart.
In 1992 the band was involved in a serious car accident that left Hayes in a body cast for a year.
