The Resume

    (January 13, 1893-August 14, 1961)
    Born in Long Valley, California
Science fiction author, close friends with and highly influenced by H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard

Why he might be annoying:

Many of his books/short stories are out of print and hard to find.
Much of his work is an imitation of that of his close friend H. P. Lovecraft.
Three journals based on his works have flopped.
He wrote very little after the deaths of Howard and Lovecraft.
His work was once referred to as having been 'written in a Dunsany stupor.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He suffered from lifelong emotional problems which among other things led to him leaving school after the 8th grade.
He taught himself French and Spanish well enough to work as a professional translator.
Although best known as for his sci-fi short stories, he was an excellent poet, with over 700 poems published and was referred to by one critic as 'the Keats of the Pacific.'
He was also an accomplished sculptor and painter.
He suffered from lifelong eye problems.
Unlike his friends H. P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, he actually had a successful marriage, had children and didn't die tragically young.
His fansite, The Eldritch Dark, is one of the oldest and best sci-fi author fansites on the web.
