    (April 23, 1813-September 8, 1853)
    Born in Milan, Italy
    Full name was Antoine-Frederich Ozanam
French teacher, journalist, lawyer, and philanthropist
Founder of the charitable Saint Vincent de Paul Society
    Catholic of Jewish descent
Beatified by Pope John Paul II (1997)
    Feast day is September 9th
    He was French.
    He was a lawyer.
    He was a journalist.
Although French, he was actually born in Italy.
He is largely forgotten and none of his major works (just some personal letters) have been translated into English.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society has over 800,000 members in 140 countries dedicated to helping the poor.
    Their nickname is 'The Vinnies.'
He had founded the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, earned a Doctor of Law degree, a doctorate in literature, and taught doctorate level classes at two separate universities by the time he was twenty-seven!
During a debate defending his Catholic faith he was challenged to help the poor. He promptly went home, gave his supply of firewood for the winter to a poor widow, started helping out during a local cholera epidemic, and founded The Vinnies within the next week!
Along with everything else he was considered an expert on Italian and German literature of the Middle Ages.
A devout and highly literate Catholic, he worked very hard to show that the Catholic Church had been a major positive in the growth of Europe.
He really knew how to rock a beard.
