    He left The Drifters after failing to obtain a pay increase.
    Growing up, he worked as a singing waiter at his father’s restaurant.
    He became a lounge singer during the 1970’s.
    He allowed his biggest hit, ‘Stand By Me,’ to be used in a British Levi’s commercial.
    He has a soulful baritone singing voice.
    He is often credited for helping R&B music gain popularity with pop audiences.
    ‘Stand By Me’ reached the top ten of the US pop charts twice (1961, 1986).
    He was Chairman/CEO of the ‘Stand By Me Foundation’ which awarded college scholarships to underprivileged children.
