The Resume

    (August 17, 1981- )
    Born in Lake City, California
Birth name is Clinton LaVor Romesha
Former United States Army staff sergeant
Deployed to Kosovo, Iraq, and eastern Afghanistan (3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division)
Led the counterattack in the 12-hour Battle of Kamdesh, despite being wounded (Oct. 3, 2009)
Received the Congressional Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama in an award ceremony at the White House (Feb. 11, 2013)
As of January, 2015, works as a field safety specialist for an oilfield construction company

Why he might be annoying:

His nickname is Ro because his last name is so difficult to pronounce.
He initially disappointed his family by choosing not to become an LDS (Mormon) missionary.
He later characterized his volunteering for so many deployments as 'selfish' and unfair to his wife and children.
It was joked that his son 'stole the show' from him during his Medal of Honor ceremony by playing 'peek-a-boo' from behind the Presidential podium.
Pundits tried to inject politics into his decision to turn down First Lady Michelle Obama's State of the Union invitation, even though he didn't elaborate, merely stating that he had 'done some soul searching' before coming to his decision.

Why he might not be annoying:

He deployed twice to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He is an avid hockey fan who got hooked after friends at Fort Carson introduced him to the sport, before they deployed.
He was extremely close to his grandfather, a WWII veteran who fought in the Invasion of Normandy.
His father was a Vietnam veteran
In addition to the Medal of Honor, he received the Bronze Star medal and the Purple Heart, and was inducted into the Hall of Heroes at the Pentagon.
He directed close air support and provided suppressive fire to help the wounded to an aid station, when over 300 Taliban insurgents attacked Combat Outpost Keating.
His actions are all the more remarkable considering that he was wounded himself during the attack.
He is the fourth living Medal of Honor recipient for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (following Salvatore Giunta, Leroy Petry, and Dakota Meyer).
He is humble and downplayed his actions, saying that he felt 'conflicted' about receiving the Medal and noting that other soldiers involved in the attack sustained more serious injuries (both psychological and physical).
He choked up when talking about the eight infantrymen he was unable to save, during a CNN interview with Jake Tapper.
    He is a hero.
