    Recorded over 120 albums
    Appeared in the films ‘Daddy Long Legs’ (1955), ‘The Girl Can’t Help It’ (1956), ‘High School Confidential’ (1958), ‘The Five Pennies’ (1959), ‘The Beat Generation’ (1959) and ‘Girls Town’ (1959)
    Married to Mamie Van Doren (1955-61)
    He frequently clashed with Glenn Miller: ‘He wasn’t about to put up with some young upstart.’
    He said of ‘The Bunny Hop,’ ‘The music is not very inventive…. So you do get tired of it, but the demand is still fantastic, so you have to play it.’
    In most of his films, he portrayed himself or a bandleader.
    His film career ended at the same time as his marriage to Van Doren.
    He predicted big bands would make a comeback after disco died out.
    He strongly resembled Cary Grant.
    He entertained the troops leading a Navy band during WWII.
    He is a good friend of Hugh Hefner and frequent guest at the Playboy Mansion; he also played at the wedding of Hef and Crystal Harris.
    He continued leading a band into his 90s: ‘I know in my early days I thought I'd retire at 30, then it's 40, then 50, and after that, you just sort of say 'Forget it.'’
    He was the last surviving musician to have played with Glenn Miller.
