Football Coach
    (July 13, 1944- )
Born in New York City, New York
Frequent assistant coach for Bill Parcells
Head coach of Wake Forest University (1981-86), the New York Jets (2000) and the University of Virginia (2001-2009)
During his one season as head coach of the Jets, his militaristic coaching style prompted a near-mutiny by the players.
He named his son Mike as offensive coordinator at Virginia.
Asked if he was worried about his team flying shortly after 9/11, he replied, 'I'm not planning on having any Arabs in the traveling party, so therefore I think probably that the threat of our being hijacked is pretty remote.'
During the 2007 pre-season, he was named worst college coach by Sports Illustrated for 'doing the least with the most.'
As a student at Virginia, he lettered in both football and lacrosse.
He coached the Jets in the 'Monday Night Miracle,' when they overcame a 30-7 fourth quarter deficit to beat Miami 40-37 in overtime.
He apologized for his post-9/11 remarks.
After being named worst coach by SI, he led Virginia to a better than expected 9-3 record as was named Atlantic Coast Conference coach of the year.
