Premise: The misadventures of a Taiwanese family in Orlando, Florida as the operate a cowboy-themed steak restaurant while chasing the American dream in the 1990s
Based on Eddie Huang's 2013 memoir of the same name
It is an Asian version of 'Everybody Hates Chris.'
The characters are stereotypical caricatures for the purpose of humor.
It overly uses flashback joking, where the joke is immediately explained in a flashback.
Jessica is the stereotypical Asian 'tiger' mom who pushes her children to be successful by almost any means necessary.
Huang left the series as the show's narrator after season one despite being credited as a producer afterwards.
It was the first sitcom starring an Asian-American family since 'All American Family' starring Margaret Cho in the mid 1990s.
'Entertainment Weekly' television critic Melissa Maerz wrote .'It’s a relief to find that Fresh Off the Boat is not only genuinely funny and surprisingly broad but also a little bit subversive.'
Huang successfully led a Twitter campaign to change the show's name from 'Far East Orlando' to its current name.
The first two episodes of the series garnered the second highest-rated comedy series premiere that season.
The show featured guest stars such as singer Michael Bolton and fellow Asian actor Ken Jeong.
