Why she might be annoying:

Her first gig was singing on top of a bread box in front of a Philadelphia store for 25 cent a day.
When she was a torch singer, she was self-conscious of her knobby arms & legs, buck teeth and big butt.
She gave into a comedy/singing routine only after her future husband dropped a plate in the middle of her act and emcee Red Skelton upstaged her with his wild antics during another gig.
She quit showbiz in the '50s to raise her son, then found it hard to get work upon returning in the late '60s.
She tripped and fell onto a glass coffee table, where a shard of glass slashed open her jugular vein, causing her to bleed to death.

Why she might not be annoying:

She got a job in a Camden, New Jersey nightclub at 17 as a singer, hatcheck girl and electrician (what a combo).
When she became a star in radio, she was earning $2,000 a week (big leap from 25 cents a day).
After accepting her unusual mouth, she cited several other comediennes with big mouthes - Martha Raye, Judy Canova, Carol Burnett and Kaye Ballard.
When she couldn't get later work in movies or TV, she turned to musical theatre.
Mama Cass Elliot took her stage name after her.
She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
