    He died while in the middle of his 'In the Midst of Life' tour.
    Over a five decade career, he wrote a thousand songs, and sold 100 million singles and 20 million albums.
    His 'Buenos Dias, Argentina' was the theme song for the German national soccer team at the '78 World Cup.
    In one poll, his name was recognized by 95% of Germans (1980).
    He founded a non-profit organization to benefit orphans (1999).
