Best known for their songs 'The Unicorn' (1967), 'The Orange and the Green' (1968), 'Whiskey on a Sunday' (1968), 'Wasn't That a Party?' (1980) and 'Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer' (1982)
Stars of CBC TV shows 'The Irish Rovers' (1971-1975) and 'The Rovers' Comedy House' (1981)

Why they might be annoying:

Their Irish blarney shtick can be a bit much.
Although the members are all from Northern Ireland, the group was formed in Toronto.
Many of their songs are about boozing.
Their biggest hit, 'The Unicorn,' widley thought to be a traditional Irish song, was actually written by American poet Shel Silverstein.
They changed their name to 'The Rovers' in the 1980's, then went back to 'The Irish Rovers' in the 1990's.
Their website claims that 'Like the Unicorn, the Rovers are legendary and magical.'

Why they might not be annoying:

'The Unicorn' is one of the best known children's songs of all time.
Their TV programs were very popular in Canada.
Their performances contain a lot of humor and interaction among the band's members.
The group includes both Catholics and Protestants, unlike many Irish bands.
Jimmy Ferguson, the group's best loved member, died in 1997 at age 57.
They often end their shows with the Irish proverb 'May you be half an hour in heaven before the devil knows you're dead.'
