Why he might be annoying:

He is freakishly tall and thin.
Online movie sites give his height as anywhere between 6'7 and 7'11.
As the alien, he wore a mask made in part from a real human skull.
While it is true he played the alien, most of the 'character's' eerie qualities come from the design of H. R. Giger and the direction of Ridley Scott.
In the scenes where you can actually see the whole alien, he just looks like a guy in a rubber suit.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was chosen to play the alien because Ridley Scott saw him in a bar and thought his body type was perfect.
For the part, he beat out Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in 'Star Wars.'
During filming, he was able to pick up the burly actor Yaphet Kotto with no assistance.
After 'Alien,' he just went back to his regular life.
He is now reportedly a successful dancer and choreographer in London.
