Why he might be annoying:

The 'encounter groups' at his ashram allowed for physical violence and sexual encounters between participants.
He predicted two-thirds of humanity would die from AIDS and banned his followers from kissing (1983).
In an attempt to suppress voter turnout so Rajneeshee candidates could win elections in Wasco County, Oregon, his followers infected ten restaurant salad bars with salmonella, causing 750 cases of food poisoning (1984).
When he was deported from the US for violating immigration laws (1985), he denounced Americans as 'sub-human.'
He was then denied entry by 21 countries before returning to India.
He declared, 'So many religions look after the poor. Leave the rich to me!'
He owned 93 Rolls Royces.
His epitaph pretentiously declares, 'Never Born. Never Died. Only visited this Planet Earth between Dec 11 1931 - Jan 19 1990.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was charismatic.
'Times of India' editor Khushwant Singh called him 'the most original thinker that India has produced.'
A fundamentalist Hindu attacked him with a knife (1980).
He claimed he was kept isolated by his secretary, Ma Anand Sheela, and was unaware of criminal activities by his followers.
