He left 'CHiPs' in 1981 after a salary dispute, and his replacement was Olympian Bruce Jenner.
He failed to achieve equal success since then.
His name is easily confused with O-Town vocalist Erik-Michael Estrada.
While starring on a Mexican soap opera in the 1990's, he had his lines fed to him by earphone, because he didn't speak Spanish.
In recent years, he did local commercials in select markets.
Why he might not be annoying
He operates his own web site and answers his fans' e-mail, and even chats with fans online.
He is a spokesperson for D.A.R.E., the national anti-drugs organization.
He first gained fame, starring opposite Pat Boone in the famous inspirational film 'The Cross and the Switchblade.'
He markets his own line of gourmet chips. (Get it? Chips!)
