Military Personnel

The Resume

    (247 BC-183 BC)
Served for the great ancient city of Carthage, northeast of modern Tunis in Northern Africa
Studied under his father, General Hamilcar Barca
On the death of his brother-in-law, assumed command of the Carthaginian forces
Fought the Romans in a series of Three Punic Wars (264-241 BC, 218-202 BC and 149-146 BC)
    Nearly destroyed the Roman Empire

Why he might be annoying:

In the ironic coincidence department, he actually was a cannibal, but only practiced it during military campaigns when food was scarce. He also encouraged his soldiers to adopt cannibalism in order to be saved from starvation.
He swore absolute hatred towards the Romans after they defeated Carthage in the First Punic War and dedicated his life to fighting the empire.
During his crusades, he knew he was outnumbered, but he was confident that some of the allies of Rome would join Carthage during the initial attack, but they didn't.
Before the Punic Wars, the Carthaginians were at par with the Romans in commercial and military power, but after the Second Punic War, they lost all their wealth in the harsh peace conditions along with marking what most historians consider the moment Rome became a superpower.
Even though the Romans had basically dismantled the Carthaginian, he still plotted military campaigns against Rome, and when the Romans found out, he fled to Syria.
After he fled, the Romans invaded Carthage with barely any resistance and slaughtered everyone in the city, including civilians, followed by razing the city, even salting the Earth where it stood to insure Carthage would never again rise to threaten Roman interests.
In Syria, Hannibal lost a series of battles against the Romans using King Antiochus III's final reserves and then fled to Bithynia.
He was captured in his escape, and on his way to be delivered to the Romans, he committed suicide at seventy.

Why he might not be annoying:

During the Second Punic War, he performed some of the most monumental military feats in history.
He lead the entire Carthaginian army (which consisted of heavy cavalry, mercenaries and even elephants) across the Alps into Northern Italy, where he destroyed the Roman army and marched all the way to the gates of Rome with a flawless stream of victories.
He was supplied with the necessary reinforcements by his superiors.
Most of what we know today about him was written by the Romans, and even they, as his biggest enemy, had to admire and respect his military accomplishments.
He's probably one of the few figures in history that managed to scare the crap out of the Roman Empire.
