Wrote 'The History of Witchcraft and Demonology (1926),' 'The Geography of Witchcraft (1927),' 'The Vampire: His Kith and Kin (1928),' 'The Vampire in Europe (1929),' 'The Werewolf (1933),' 'A Popular History of Witchcraft (1937)' and 'Witchcraft and Black Magic (1946)'

Why he might be annoying:

He wrote about vampires, witches and werewolves as though they were real.
He was a Catholic priest, but was defrocked after being accused of molesting choirboys.
He claimed to have special orders from the Vatican to investigate the occult, but this has never been proved.
Some doubt he was even an ordained priest.
He claimed his birth name was 'Alphonsus Joseph-Mary Augustus Montague Summers,' but that was probably just an affectation, since he was raised an Anglican.
He was plump and had a squeaky voice.
He always wore an odd priestly costume that was old-fashioned, even for the time.
He deliberately styled his hair to look like a powdered wig.

Why he might not be annoying:

It is unclear whether he truly believed in the supernatural at all (some believe it was just an elaborate joke).
The Satanist Aleister Crowley once threatened to turn him into a toad.
In addition to his occult interests, he was a noted expert on literature and drama.
He is still considered the foremost scholar of vampire folklore.
