Directed ‘Medium Cool’ (1969) and ‘Latino’ (1985)
Directed the documentaries ‘The Bus’ (1965), ‘Brazil: A Report on Torture’ (1971), ‘Underground’ (1976), ‘War Without Winners’ (1978), ‘Who Needs Sleep?’ (2006) and ‘Four Days in Chicago’ (2013)

Why he might be annoying:

He was married three times, divorced twice.
He accompanied Jane Fonda on the trip to North Vietnam that earned her the ‘Hanoi Jane’ nickname.
He said he felt a kinship with Occupy L.A. protestors, despite admittedly living a comfortable lifestyle as a successful Hollywood cinematographer.
Many directors found him difficult to work with.
He admitted, ‘I don't think there is a movie that I've been on that I wasn't sure I could direct it better.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Merchant Marine during WWII, and survived in a lifeboat for two weeks after his ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat.
He met a teenaged George Lucas due to a mutual interest in cars and persuaded Lucas to go to film school.
He was harassed by the FBI over his involvement in the civil rights and anti-war movements.
In ‘Bound for Glory,’ he was the first cinematographer to use the recently invented Steadicam.
He was named one of the ten most influential cinematographers in history by the International Cinematographers Guild (2003).
