    Was awarded the Distinguished service cross and the Congressional Medal of Honor (1944)
    Became a test pilot for the Lockheed Corporation (1945)
    Died testing Lockheed P-80 (1945)
    He shares his name with a marijuana smoking device.
    He preferred to be called Dick to Richard.
    He was reported for flying his P-38 under the Golden gate bridge and down a San Francisco street after his graduation from flight school.
    He did his part to protect the world during WW II.
    He developed the 'air superiority tactic' and the 'never dogfight a zero' tactic.
    He had a picture of his wife, Marge, on the nose of his P-38.
    When WW II broke out, General George Kenney requested two things to be sent to the Pacific, the P-38 fighter plane and Dick Bong.
