    He was most famous for singing French versions of English-language rock and roll hits.
    Fans nicknamed him 'Clo-Clo.'
    He called his sexy background dancers 'Les Clodettes.'
    He died changing a light bulb, while standing in a bathtub full of water.

    He wrote the original version of the Frank Sinatra classic 'My Way' in 1967.
    He escaped an IRA bomb explosion while visiting London (1975).
    Just two years later, in 1977, he survived a shooting attempt by a deranged fan.
    On March 11, 2000, a public square in Paris was named in his honor.
