    (April 15, 1908-March 4, 1995)
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
Birth name was George Alexander Aberle
Wrote the Nat 'King' Cole hit 'Nature Boy' (1948)
Recorded the album 'Eden's Island' (1960)
Like e.e. cummings and k.d. lang, he wrote his name in all lower case, which screws up the search engine.
He lived with his wife and child under the Hollywood sign and in LA's Griffith Park.
He spent much of his time on street corners, lecturing about Oriental mysticism.
He copied the melody of 'Nature Boy' from the Yiddish song 'Shvayg Mayn Harts' and had to settle with the publishers out of court.
He was a hippie two decades ahead of schedule.
He was an orphan raised in a foster home.
He crossed the US on foot eight times before he was 35.
'Nature Boy' became a standard recorded by everyone from Frank Sinatra to David Bowie.
When a cop said he looked like he belonged in a mental institution, he replied, 'I look crazy but I'm not. And the funny thing is, that other people don't look crazy, but they are.'
