Why he might be annoying:

He was thrice divorced, including Tammy Wynette who couldn't 'stand by her man.'
He had a history of alcoholism and became addicted to cocaine.
In the 1970s, he would disappear for days at a time and missed so many concerts he was given the nickname 'No-Show Jones.'
Frank Sinatra once called him 'the second best white male singer.'
His fourth wife Nancy accepted his 1993 Country Music Association award as he was on the toilet when his name was read.
He nearly killed himself driving drunk into a bridge (March 6, 1999).

Why he might not be annoying:

He charted over 160 singles, more than any artist of any music format.
He felt the 1980 song 'He Stopped Loving Her Today' was 'too damn sad' to be a hit, but it has been voted on some country music polls as the best country song ever recorded.
He has two platinum and five gold albums.
He was voted Billboard magazine's 'Most Promising New Country Vocalist' (1956) and 'Male Vocalist Of The Year' (1962 & 1963).
He was the Country Music Association 'Male Vocalist Of The Year' (1980 & 1981).
Many stars list him as a musical influence, including Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, Mark Chesnutt, Mickey Gilley and ZZ Top.
President George W. Bush awarded him the U.S. National Medal of Arts (2002).
