Why he might be annoying:

His famous song is about pedophilia, starting 'She's just sixteen years old, leave her alone, they say.'
He was talked into recording under the name Troy, but quickly returned to Benny Mardones.
He named one of his bands 'The Band with No Name.'
He abused drugs.
He contemplated suicide and then became a superstar in Syracuse NY.
Although he wrote hits for others, he did not write 'Into the Night.'

He served in the navy during the Vietnam War.
His song has been used often on Playboy videos.
His song reached the top 20, twice (1980, 89).
It is believed 'Into the Night' is one of most played songs on radio (ASCAP reported over 4,000,000 plays).
He got his solo break as a last minute replacement at Madison Square Garden when Blue Oyster Cult cancelled.
He quit drugs when his son was born (1985).
He was signed by Mariah Carey's Crave records, but it went out of business three weeks later (1998).
