Actress
    (July 5, 1755-June 8, 1831)
Born in Brecon, Wales, United Kingdom
Member of the Kemble theatrical dynasty
    Aunt of Fanny Kemble
Best known for her portrayals of Lady Macbeth
Namesake for the Sarah Siddons Award presented for outstanding performance in a Chicago theater production
She was born at an inn called the Shoulder of Mutton.
Her first appearance at London's Drury Lane Theatre went so badly that she was 'banished as a worthless candidate for fame and fortune.'
Her intensity during performances often unnerved her fellow actors, with one running off stage and refusing to return.
The Sarah Siddons Award was originally a fiction created for the movie 'All About Eve' (1950), but a group of Chicago theater patrons created one two years later.
She was described as a 'statuesque' beauty.
She outlived five of her seven children.
Samuel Johnson admired her modesty, writing 'Neither praise nor money, the two powerful corrupters of mankind, seem to have depraved her.'
At her farewell performance as Lady Macbeth, the audience response was so overwhelming that the play was unable to continue after her sleepwalking scene (June 29, 1812).
