    Wrote ‘Up, Up, and Away,’ ‘By the Time I Get to Phoenix,’ ‘MacArthur Park,’ ‘Wichita Lineman,’ ‘Didn’t We,’ ‘The Moon’s a Harsh Mistress,’ ‘Do What You Gotta Do,’ ‘The Highwayman,’ and ‘Worst That Could Happen’

Why he might be annoying:

    He is a smoker.
    He wrote one of the goofiest hits of all time (‘MacArthur Park’).
    His own recordings have never been as successful as the songs he wrote for other people.
    He married his wife, Patsy, when she was 17.
    He and his wife went through a bitter divorce in 1997.

    His songs were hits for Isaac Hayes, Donna Summer, Glen Campbell, Richard Harris, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
    He is an arranger and producer as well as a songwriter.
    He has begun writing music for Broadway.
    Campbell used Webb’s Hammond organ when recording ‘Wichita Lineman.’
    He was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
