Why he might be annoying:

He was exploitative.
He married Judy despite being twelve years her junior.
He met Judy while delivering a package of prescription stimulant tablets to her hotel room.
He fought bitterly with Judy throughout their marriage (which only lasted a year until her death).
The circumstances of Judy's death were sketchy enough for him to be deemed suspect (they could be heard fighting the night before she was found dead from an apparent overdose).
Sid Luft specifically leveled the direct charge that he murdered Judy and tampered with the crime scene to make it appear like a suicide.

He was the youngest of three children.
He was a talented piano player and singer.
He is portrayed sympathetically by Finn Wittrock in the Oscar-winning 'Judy.'
His stepson from his second marriage said: 'He never stopped loving Judy Garland. He always spoke of her frailty, and how he felt very protective of her. He wished he had been able to do more to help her and keep her alive.'
