Why he might be annoying:

He inherited an atrociously repressive military regime that was responsible for the tortures, deaths and disappearances of thousands of real or suspected dissidents as part of the Dirty War (1976-1983).
He supported the military coup of 1976 and rose through the ranks because of it.
In an attempt to distract the international community and his subjects from the appalling human rights record of the military regime, he ordered the invasion of the Falkland Islands, which he annexed until it was recaptured by Margaret Thatcher (April 2-June 14, 1982).
As a result, he got replaced and later stripped from his rank for mishandling the war as well as human rights abuses (1986).

Why he might not be annoying:

His parents were poor Italian immigrants.
When he visited the United States, Ronald Reagan warmly greeted him as an anti-Communist (1981).
Ordinary Argentines supported his invasion of the Falklands Islands.
He was six foot two inches high, so he was called a ‘soldier's soldier’.
He was pardoned by president Carlos Menem (1991).
He died of pancreatic cancer just before he could be put on trial.
