Conductor

The Resume

    (December 17, 1894-July 10, 1979)
    Born in Boston, Massachusetts
Conductor for the Boston Pops Orchestra (1930–1979)

Why he might be annoying:

    He loosely resembled Albert Einstein.
He would travel around Boston in his own vehicle to see large fires.
While the orchestra represented part of the previous 17 conductors’ respective careers, he made it his life’s work.
‘We play all kinds of music, except the boring kind.’

Why he might not be annoying:

His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist.
His tenure as conductor was, by five years, longer than the combined terms of all his predecessors.
He volunteered with the Coast Guard.
He did not limit his scope to Boston, having conducted the San Francisco Pops for 26 years and the opening of Walt Disney World (1971).
A footbridge over Storrow Drive was named in his honor.
