    He used to do drugs.
    He was a mediocre songwriter /musician before becoming an excellent fiction writer.
    He was forty before turning to writing.
    By his own words, he is a 'devout' Catholic but reveals little of Catholic thought in his writings.
    He's written that 'When a person really wants something, all the universe conspires to help that person realize his dream' and 'no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream.' Which is the exact opposite of what most people experience.
    His novel, Veronika Decides to Die was turned into a very mediocre and boring movie with a twist at the end that was obvious (literally) five minutes into the film.
    According to his own words, he doesn't socialize well.
    He thinks the Mona Lisa is overrated.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Originally written in Portuguese, The Alchemist has been translated into over 80 languages and has sold at least 150 million copies making Coleho one of the best-selling authors of all-time and according to the Guinness Book of World Records, he is the most translated living author in the world.
    Has sold a total of over 210 million books in 170 countries!
    Celebrity fans include; Jacqueline Lovell, Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, and <21466>Pharrell Williams He has more Twitter followers than Stephen King or JK Rowling.
    He has been married to the same woman since 1980.
    He's said, 'collective madness is called sanity.'
    As a teenager, he was instituted in the mental health asylum three times and escaped all three times.
    He was imprisoned by Brazil's then military dictatorship three times.
    He started writing after making the famous 500 mile pilgrimage to Compostela, Spain.
    He relaxes with archery.
    He's an awesome philanthropist.
    He supports women's rights but isn't a nutcase.
    He has a fantastic website/blog.
