Why he might be annoying:

    He never brushed his teeth and lost all his teeth by the time he was 28.
    He refused to wear dentures, saying they made him belch while drinking.
    He was suspended for throwing a punch at an official (1982).
    During one tournament, he got so drunk he fell off the stage (1984).
    He cut a record, 'Jocky on the Oche,' that sold 850 copies (1989).
    He lost his winnings, went bankrupt (1997) and survives on a disability allowance for his diabetes.

Why he might not be annoying:

    As an unemployed coal miner, he won 500 pounds in a darts contest, then decided to go professional (1979).
    His outgoing personality made him popular with BBC viewers during darts' 80s heyday.
    He was one of the first sports personalities with a computer game named after him, Jocky Wilson's Darts Challenge (1988).
    He told an interviewer, 'I don't want anyone feeling sorry for me. There's only one person to blame for the situation I'm in, and that's me.'
