Why he might be annoying:

He was associated with the Muslim Brotherhood party for over twenty years.
He wanted to extradite convicted World Trade Center bomber Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman for 'humanitarian reasons.'
His campaign for President, as well as the early stages of his reign, included power struggles with Egypt's military leaders.
He vowed to create policies based on Islamic Law, but, claimed he was not interested in creating a theocracy.
Not wanting to support a Mubarak hold over, nor a non-secular candidate in Morsi, many Egyptians boycotted the run-off election Morsi eventually won.
He aligned himself with right wing, conservative Islamists.

Why he might not be annoying:

He made history by becoming the first Islamist candidate to ever be democratically elected as President of an Arab state.
As he assumed office, he said: 'Today the Egyptian people have established a new life, with real freedom and real democracy.'
He proclaimed he wouldn't discriminate against Egyptians based on their religion, ethnicity or gender (though, many wondered if this was just lip service).
He received a doctorate in physics from University of Southern California.
He won favor with some secular youth activists and liberal groups simply by opposing everything Hosni Mubarak stood for.
