    Best known for his portrayal of ‘Tonto,' The Lone Ranger's Sidekick, in ‘The Lone Ranger (1938,' ‘The Lone Ranger Rides Again (1939)' and ‘Hi-Yo Silver (1940)'
    Portrayed Geronimo in ‘Geronimo (1939)' and ‘I Killed Geronimo (1944)'

Why he might be annoying:

    He was credited as ‘Chief Thundercloud' although he was not an actual Native American Chief (it was a nickname).
    He was typecast as stereotypical Native American Chiefs.
    He is confused with fellow actor, Chief Thunderbird.
    He claimed to have studied two years at University of Arizona although there is no record of his attending there.
    Although portraying an Apache Chief, he was actually Cherokee.
    His nickname was Badass.
    He was the first actor to portray Tonto, a stereotype of Native Americans.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He bore a great similarity to Geronimo, whom he portrayed on screen.
    He acted in over 100 films.
    Although Tonto was degrading to Native Americans, it may have been the first time a Native was portrayed as a protagonist on screen, rather than an antagonist.
    Tonto is one of the most popular Native American figures in American Culture.
    His last film appearance was in John Ford's ‘The Searchers'
    He died of stomach cancer.
    Before becoming an actor, he was an unskilled laborer, guide, boxer, mining foreman and stuntman.
