    Born in New York City, New York
    Became famous at age 7 with his performance of Mendelssohn's violin concerto
    Founded the Yehudi Menuhin School for musically gifted children (1963)
    Collaborated with jazz violinst Stephane Grappelli and sitarist Ravi Shankar
    Became a citizen of Switzerland (1970) and Great Britain (1985)
    He was a child prodigy.
    He was a vegetarian.
    He was into yoga and stood on his head 15 to 20 minutes each day.
    His son Jeremy said, 'It was impossible to have an ordinary conversation with him, unless you were talking about one of his projects.... Anything personal was viewed as a weakness.'
    He was married to ballerina Diana Gould for 52 years until his death.
    He had a 70 year recording contract with EMI, the longest in the music biz.
    During World War II, he played over 500 concerts for US troops and performed for survivors of the newly liberated Belsen concentration camp.
    As a gesture of post-war reconciliation, he performed with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Wilhelm Furtwangler (1947).
    After hearing him play, Albert Einstein said, 'Now I know there is a God in heaven.'
