Why he might be annoying:

His nickname is 'Youk.'
Prior to establishing himself as the team's starting first baseman, he rotated between the middle infield and outfield positions.
On several baseball references which shorten names, when the first five letters of his surname and first two of his first name are combined, it spells a racial epithet.
He was intentionally beaned by Yankee pitchers.
He was injury prone during the earlier stages of his career.

He is heavily involved with various charities in and around the Boston area.
He set a new Sox franchise record for most consecutive games by a first baseman without an error.
He established himself as the team's everyday baseman following the departure of Kevin Millar.
