The Resume

    (August 12, 1940-July 12, 2020)
    Born in Opelousas, Louisiana
Recorded the single ‘This Should Go On Forever’ (1959)
Considered one of the pioneers of ‘swamp pop’ (a combination of New Orleans-style rhythm and blues, country and western, and Cajun music)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a one-hit wonder.
It took so many takes to record ‘This Should Go On Forever’ that he developed a nosebleed and recorded the final take (used for the single) through a towel.
He later said, ‘Maybe I should have kept singing with a towel around my face. Maybe that was my style and I didn’t know it.’
’This Should Go On Forever’ was banned by some radio stations over the line ‘If it’s sin to really love you, then a sinner I will be.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a disc jockey for a local radio station with a 4 to 10 PM show while still in high school.
He said about promoting ‘This Should Go On Forever’ by touring with big-name rockers like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, ‘I didn’t make a lot of money, but I had a lot of fun.’
Johnny and Edgar Winter played on several of his recordings.
He joined the Marine Corps (1962).
He recorded the album ‘Boogie in Black and White’ with zydeco legend Clifton Chenier (1976).
