The Resume

    (1969- )
    Born in Liberia
    Liberian surgeon
Medical Director for the Eternal Love Winning Africa (ELWA) Hospital in Monrovia
Trained/taught Ebola health workers and treated Ebola-stricken patients during the Ebola outbreak in Liberia and other parts of West Africa (2014)

Why he might be annoying:

He shares a name with the Governor of California.
His studies on the effectiveness of the ZMapp drug, as a treatment for Ebola patients, initially had mixed results.
Outrage ensued from the #BlackLivesMatter movement when he and other Ebola fighters were chosen to be Time Magazine's 'People of the Year' over the Ferguson, Missouri protesters (Dec. 2014).
He took part in the initiative spearheaded by LA Prof. Mary Beth Heffernan to attach photographic portraits to health workers, in order to make their PPEs 'less scary-looking.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is very humble.
He turned his clinic's chapel into the capital's first Ebola treatment center (there were no sanitation zones in Monrovia, at the time).
He saved thousands of lives in Liberia through his medical practice.
He probably saved even more lives in West Africa and abroad, by helping to contain the disease's spread.
His tireless efforts resulted in the World Health Organization declaring Liberia to be 'Ebola free' (March, 2015).
He was frequently tasked with comforting Ebola survivors who had lost loved ones (very often orphaned children).
Idris Elba would be perfect to portray him (he wrote his 2015 Time Magazine profile).
He and his fellow 'Ebola fighters' are living proof that Africa isn't a continent of hapless victims unable to care for themselves without the help of (usually condescending) Westerners.
He said what he was most proud of in the Ebola fighters' success was 'seeing Liberians try to do everything possible to spearhead the fight and not only waiting for international community to come and lead the fight.'
