The Resume

    (August 4, 1949- )
Birth name is Robert John Riggins
Running Back for the New York Jets (1971-1975) and Washington Redskins (1976-1979, 1981-1985)
    Super Bowl XVII MVP
    Sports commentator
Portrays Mitch Herndon on ‘Guiding Light’
    Nicknamed ‘The Diesel’ and ‘Riggo’

Why he might be annoying:

Extremely intoxicated, he once told Justice Sandra Day O’Connor to ‘loosen up, Sandy baby, you’re too tight.’ He then passed out under the table at the feet of Barbara Bush.
On another occasion, he was so bombed that he passed out on a bench in the locker room and peed on himself.
He was arrested for public intoxication.
    He has a huge ego.
He sat out the 1980 season because he wasn’t the featured back.
After winning the Super Bowl MVP, he said, ‘Ron (Reagan) may be president, but tonight, I am king.’
He ran for 11,352 yards in his career, but only made the Pro Bowl once.
At a formal Super Bowl party, he showed up wearing camouflage fatigues. Later that week at a casual party, he showed up wearing a tuxedo with tails and a top hat.
He has pitched Ford and Chevy trucks but drives a Range Rover.

Why he might not be annoying:

His 4th down, 4th quarter run in Super Bowl XVII (when he dragged Dolphin CB Don McNeal) is one of the most famous runs in history.
That play put the Redskins on top for the first time in the game.
He gained 610 yards against 4 playoff teams en route to the Super Bowl title.
He holds the record for carries in a Super Bowl with 38.
Unlike many running backs, he peaked after his 30th birthday.
He was rarely knocked backward, and almost always fell forward.
He is beloved by Redskin fans.
He was incredibly durable for being such a punishing runner.
He was deceptively fast, and a track star in high school.
At his theatrical debut, Sandra Day O'Connor presented him with a dozen roses during a curtain call.
He now lives in New York City.
