The group’s name is a reference to what Sorbara named her iPod (‘a dragon in stilettos’).
‘We met at a Canadian music festival we were both playing at… and then we screwed…’ ‘…and then I left my girlfriend…’ And then they married.
Sorbara’s father, a provincial finance minister, dismissed them as ‘market-driven’ and ‘part of the raciness of current popular culture’ (kind of like her); in turn, she described some of the band’s songs as ‘backbenchers.’
‘It’s not the kind of band to launch in Canada,’ said Kurtz, on hightailing it to London. ‘You couldn’t bounce high enough on the trampoline to see over the trees.’
Socially conservative nutjobs and depressed teens – the latter of whom probably know little about genuine depression – need not bother with them.
In their earliest touring days – lending credence to their claims of heavy New Wave influences – they opened for New Order and Duran Duran.
They listed Phoebe Snow as their inspiration for ‘Bodyparts.’
Sorbara (referring to the bleacher seats) on how they got their recording contract: ‘Who do I have to fuck, to get all of you up there down here and dancing?’
