Hockey Coach

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He was a healthy scratch during the 1918 Stanley Cup Finals.
He posted a losing record in three of his first five seasons as a head coach.
He had a reputation for being way too strict with his teams in order to prevent them from being complacent.
His reputation of making blockbuster trades earned him the nickname 'Trader Jack.'
Prior to 1997, some Red Wing fans claimed the team was under the 'Curse of Jack Adams' as the team was a perennial non-contender following the 1955 Stanley Cup victory.
He traded Ted Lindsay after he found out the latter was part of a movement to start a players union.
He went as far as slandering Lindsay in the media.
His 1942 Red Wings team is best remembered for being the first team to lose a best of 7 series, despite being up 3 games to 0.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a member of the inaugural Arenas (later Maple Leafs) franchise.
He was the winningest coach in Red Wings history, prior to Mike Babcock.
He worked for the Red Wings on a handshake agreement for the majority of his tenure.
He assembled the core of the Red Wings teams that featured future Hall of Fame players Ted Lindsay, Sid Abel, Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk, Red Kelly and Alex Delvecchio.
He was the first person in NHL history to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup as a player, coach and general manager.
The NHL posthumously named its Coach of the Year award in his honor.
He served 36 years as the Red Wings general manager, which remains an NHL record as of 2020.
