    He was hired to work on ‘In The Heat Of The Night' so that his father could keep an eye on him.
    He shot himself in the head on his third wedding anniversary.
    He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease at 16.
    Despite the dubious reason for being hired, he proved to be a good actor.
    Carroll O'Connor lobbied to have a law passed where people hurt by drug dealers could sue them; it is known as The Hugh O'Connor Memorial Law.
