The Resume

    (January 3, 1922-March 29, 1994)
Born in Sunderland, England, United Kingdom
Birth name was William Inglis Linden-Travers
Best know for portraying George Adamson in ‘Born Free’ (1966)
Also appeared in the movies ‘The Browning Version’ (1951), ‘Romeo and Juliet’ (1954), ‘Geordie’ (1955), ‘The Barretts of Wimpole Street’ (1957), ‘The Seventh Sin’ (1957), ‘Gorgo’ (1961), ‘Two Living, One Dead’ (1961), ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ (1968), ‘Ring of Bright Water’ (1969), and ‘An Elephant Called Slowly’ (1970)
Directed the documentaries ‘The Lions Are Free’ (1969) and ‘The Lion at World’s End’ (1971)
With his wife, actress Virginia McKenna, founded the wildlife charity The Born Free Foundation (1984)

Why he might be annoying:

During a brief stint in Hollywood, the films he starred in for MGM were box office flops.
He was considered for the lead in ‘Ben Hur’ (1959), but was passed over in favor of Charlton Heston.
Ironically, his biggest success significantly derailed his film career, as after ‘Born Free’ he became more interested in conservation and animal rights than acting.

Why he might not be annoying:

During World War II, he served in a British Gurkha unit, and once traveled several hundred miles behind enemy lines disguised as a native of China.
He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
He spent years documenting the abuse of animals in low-budget ‘slum zoos’ in Europe.
