Won the Australian Championships (1956), French Championships (1956) and Wimbledon (1956-57)
Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame (1980)

Why he might be annoying:

Although he was technically an amateur, his job for the Dunlop sporting goods company required a minimum of work while providing plenty of time for tournaments.
Tennis pro Jack Kramer called him 'very lazy' and 'the most inconsistent of all the top players.'
He was so casual about tennis that he did not realize he had won 3/4 of the Grand Slam in 1956: 'I remember picking up an American sports magazine with my picture on the cover and the words 'Grand Slammer from Down Under' and not knowing what they were bloody on about.'
He was forced to retire early from the pro tennis tour due to back problems.

Why he might not be annoying:

His movie star looks and flamboyant style of play made him the leading tennis icon of his day.
Pancho Gonzales said, 'He had the most natural tennis mind with the most natural tennis physique.'
After retiring from competition, he and his wife ran a tennis resort in Spain where they entertained friends such as Sean Connery, Charlton Heston and Kirk Douglas.
Battling leukemia, he suffered a fatal heart attack while waiting for a bone marrow transplant.
