Auto Racer

The Resume

    (February 26, 1945-September 8, 2006)
    Born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
    V8 Supercar racer for Holden (1973-97, 2002 & 2004)
Inducted into the V8 Supercar Hall of Fame in (2008)
Died after crashing into a tree during a race on a track just outside of Perth, Western Australia during retirement

Why he might be annoying:

His first marriage lasted two years and his second marriage to former Miss Australia Pageant winner, Michelle Downes, lasted only one.
Downes claimed he repeatedly beat her, and forced her to have an abortion.
His partner, Bev, claimed he was not an entirely faithful partner.
    He was a vegetarian.
    He was sponsored by Marlboro.
He was an environmentalist who competed in a sport that polluted air.
He supported the use of a device called the 'Energy Polariser' containing crystals and magnets in an epoxy resin that, it was claimed, improved the performance and handling of vehicles through 'aligning the molecules'.
The overwhelming majority of the Australian motoring community regarded the device as pseudoscience.
He also recommended tire pressures of 22psi for his polariser-equipped vehicles, a level which many regarded as near-dangerously low.
His promotion of the Polariser caused Holden to sever its ties with the Holden Racing Team.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His motto was 'Enjoy Life!'.
He advocated cleaner fuels, safer driving and often raced in a car with the number 05 to promote the legal blood alcohol driving level of 0.05%.
He had his own charity aimed at helping disadvantaged youths and people with disabilities.
He won both the Barthurst 500 nine times (a feat that has not yet been equaled) and the Sandown 500 nine times.
His death was more sad news for Australia, coming just four days after the death of Steve Irwin.
His partner Bev said of his death, 'Brock was loved. He was in the public eye, and everything had to be done with a flourish and with a bang. It's probably the way he would want to go out, (and) he would want to be remembered.'
