    (October 5, 1922-November 8, 2011)
Created the comic panel 'Family Circus'
His cartoon almost entirely consists of children saying something corny.
Due to its saccharine tone and religious themes, his strip is popular with the 'PAX ' crowd.
He sent a cease-and-desist letter to a web site that posted his cartoons with dirty captions.
His strip was originally called 'Family Circle,' but it was changed since it was the same name as the magazine.
Simply 'to be different,' he dropped an 'l' from 'Bill.'
He named the 'Family Circus' dog Barfy.
He served in World War II.
He became a cartoonist despite not taking any art courses.
'Family Circus' is one of the most widely syndicated comic panels.
He won the Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year (1982).
His children seem not to be embarrassed about being the models for his 'Family Circus' characters.
One of his sons is an animator who created several characters for Disney movies.
