Why he might be annoying
Before he became an environmentalist, his hedge fund invested in several coal mining companies.
Farallon also invested in companies developing Canada’s oil sands – the same companies he would oppose when he campaigned against the Keystone XL pipeline.
He was reportedly considered for the positions of Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of Energy in the Obama administration, but was ultimately passed over.
He and his wife, Kat Taylor, slapped the name TomKat on several of their endeavors, as if they were an erstwhile Hollywood power couple.
He spent $67 million to support pro-environmental candidates in seven Senate races in the 2014 midterm elections; only three of the candidates he backed won.
He has spent over $10 million on a campaign to impeach Donald Trump, despite the extreme unlikelihood of anything happening before the Robert Mueller investigation ends.

He and his wife signed the Giving Pledge to donate half their wealth to charities in their lifetime.
