The Resume

    Gym and fitness center chain
Marketed as a 'Judgment Free Zone'
Founders: Michael and Marc Grondahl, Rich Berks

Why Planet Fitness might be annoying:

It offers tanning beds for Black Card membership holders.
Men's Health magazine voted it 'the worst gym in America.'
Its staff and members tend to flagrantly violate corporate's 'Judgment Free' motto.
Bodybuilders have objected to the way they are portrayed in its marketing and advertising.
It uses a 'lunk alarm' - a loud siren and rotating light that goes off when a member grunts too loudly or drops weights (which rarely gets used, if ever).
Its business model hinges on a majority of its members not even showing up regularly (which reportedly amounts to over half of its entire membership).
Staff does little to enforce its 'No Cell Phone' rule, even when done from inside the locker rooms.
It was criticized for charging its customers in the first month of the Coronavirus pandemic, forcing corporate to issue a statement promising refund credits (2020).

Why Planet Fitness might not be annoying:

    It is affordable.
    It coined the term 'lunk.'
They have had J.B. Smoove and Megan Thee Stallion for spokespeople.
While they are about the same, people tend to prefer it over Golds Gym.
It is one of the largest fitness club franchises in the world.
It professes to accommodate the needs of occasional or first-time health club members.
It managed to weather the storm of the COVID lockdowns, with its membership spiking in the years following the shutdown.
