Hockey Player
    (June 26, 1895-October 9, 1950)
    Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens (1926-33, 1936-37) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (1933-36)
    Vezina Trophy Winner (1927, 1928, 1929)
Hockey Hall of Fame inductee (1961)
He was undersized for a goaltender.
Despite his status as a legend in Montreal, he left the team to play for the rival Maple Leafs.
He played only seven games during his final season.
Many modern hockey fans fail to recognize him as being one of the greatest goaltenders of his era.
He was 31 years old when he made his NHL debut.
He had enormous shoes to fill as he replaced Georges Vezina as the Canadiens goaltender.
He was the first recipient of the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded to the best regular-season goaltender.
He guided the Canadiens to consecutive Stanley Cup titles (1930, 1931).
He was the second goaltender in NHL history to be appointed team captain.
He held the NHL single season records for most shutouts and goals against average (both have since been broken).
