Why he might be annoying:

He would smoke a pipe onstage when he wasn’t singing.
He was married and divorced three times.
He frequently dissed fellow blues guitarists, such as calling B.B. King ‘one dimensional’ and dismissing Albert Collins as a T-Bone Walker clone.
When Hurricane Ike hit Texas, flooding caused his casket to float out of its grave (2008).

Why he might not be annoying:

He got his break when he played an impromptu set to fill in for an ill T-Bone Walker at the Bronze Peacock Club in Houston (1947).
He incorporated elements of jazz, country, bluegrass, and zydeco into the blues.
He was frequently sent on tours of Europe and Africa by the State Department as a musical ambassador.
