Why he might be annoying:

He is considered the second biggest NHL 1st overall draft bust, behind Alexandre Daigle.
Upon making his debut in the NHL, he initially wanted to wear #99 when his preferred #9 was taken.
He opted to wear #98 instead, which earned him the nickname 'Notch.'
He frequently was assigned to the minor leagues.
Many Lightning fans felt he, along with the team's new ownership group, were driving the team into the ground with poor signings and refusal to address the team's immediate needs upon taking over.
He brought Barry Melrose back to coaching after a 13 year absence, only to fire him a month into the season.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first American-born player to be drafted first overall in the NHL Entry Draft.
Some hockey pundits feel his status as a draft bust is a result of being in a deep draft class that had future Hall of Fame stars like Steve Yzerman, Cam Neely and Pat LaFontaine taken in the first round.
He is the first NHL player to wear #98 (a decision he has come to regret).
He was a successful player agent prior to accepting the Lightning's offer to become the team's new general manager.
He drafted future franchise stars Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman in his first two NHL Drafts.
He was a member of the inaugural San Jose Sharks roster (1991-92).
